Red Dead Redemption is a western action-adventure video game. The game, set during the decline of the American Frontier in the year 1911, follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, he sets out to bring the three members of his former gang to justice. Red Dead Redemption is played in an open world environment, allowing the player to interact with the game world at their leisure. The player travel the world primarily by horseback and on foot. Upon its release it won year-end accolades, including Game of the Year awards from several publications. The game's soundtrack also won Best Original Music from GameSpot, and Best Original Score at the Spike Video Game Awards; the latter also awarded "Far Away" by José González with Best Song in a Game.
