My #FinalJam could only be this, possibly the greatest goodbye song ever written. Longing and sorrowful while looking forward to what's next. Perfect for this occasion. The lyrics are so beautiful...

Sheer Heart Attack won me over big time and probably still is my favourite Queen album but it was A Night At The Opera and this track in particular that sealed for me Brian May's astonishing originality and often breathtaking guitar work. It also became so clear with this track how the band were using the studio and production tricks as an additional instrument or songwriting tool to drive the song forward and create those beautiful twists and turns. DR JOHN is on stage...The lights dim & a solitary spotlight illuminates him as the opening bars to " Whoopee" drifts across the juju background. He pulls apart his gothic voodoo garb to reveal a tuxedo & bow-tie. Dropping his gilded splinters, he catches a cane tossed from the wings....The sinister swampland props slide out of view to expose a garish casino-style lounge bar. By this time, ol' Rabennack is really swingin' down the lane.........

by Ry Cooder ft. Harry Dean Stanton
"WE'LL MEET AGAIN".....I've never jammed Ry Cooder before which is almost a crime in itself but here we have him at his most poignant with a song speaking of transitions which is pretty appropriate for the big Jam migration. A melody of warmth and sweetness with an appearance by actor, Harry Dean Stanton, who sings a few verses beautifully, including a little in Spanish......and then there is that swooo-ooping slide guitar that mesmerizes.....aah mama ( sighs) carry me to Valhalla......

So TIMJ is to be no more. That is a real pity for I feel I have encountered a number of like-minded souls, been introduced to some music I would never have otherwise listened to, and have even made a number of friends (albeit of the virtual kind). So I shall play out with what I regard to be the finest piece of Rock 'n' Roll ever recorded:

I'd rather be dreaming than thinking thoughts are small comfort to me dreams might be pretend but at least dreams end and I just can't stop thinking you see thoughts are small comfort to me I'd rather be dreaming than sleeping Just sleeping you're just as well dead
