My favourite time of the year, all the hoards have returned to their regular abode and occupations, kids back to the books and still the sunshine lingers as Autumn beckons with promise of sweet roast chestnut and the odd wisp of woodsmoke as the chill of evening entices one indoors from another day of adventures! Glorious sweet retirement! #magic

What chances now of ever witnessing this simple wish ever coming to fruition? Wishful thinking from another innocent era or a Eurovision precognition of how the demographic chips would fall 43 years later? You decide if wishes have been fulfilled!

Recorded 51 years ago yesterday, in a studio in London this song remains the sole Blues song to make it to No1 in the British charts to date! Howling Wolf had recorded the Willie Dixon composed song three years previous in June 1961 and Wolf and Muddy Waters were prime influences for the Stones, particularly Brian Jones. Covering the song was a very brave move by the Stones as some doubters considered the bluesy number undancable and a reckless risk to their potential success, but that alarm proved unfounded and the rest as they say, is history!

Here's a subject that's topical, indeed when was it not ever so? Earthlings are a curious lot with our limits, restrictions, prohibitions, tariffs, exclusions and delusions. We broadcast to the whole wide universe how good life on Earth is and how great we are, but will we welcome the ALIENS with open arms when they pay us a visit? The problem with flaunting ones wealth is the neighbours want a bit of that action too and the www shows where it's at!

A blast from the past which captivated my imagination when I was a schoolboy and even more so when I discovered that my grand uncle was among those few who took on Capone and his mob in the hay days of Prohibition, surviving to tell quite a series of fantastic unknown tales that all stack up.

Well this evening I hosted my first track on Let's Loop, sticking with the same avatar and the same Bat tag, quite a few recognisable TIMJ followers on the Loop already, feels like home away from home as our time here on TIMJ slips and slides away. I may just manage to clock up my 100th jam before the door closes on this my first cyber bar cafe!

Though my wife is Spanish and looks and sings way better than Shakira, I only view this video to brush up on the lingo as my cariños boda language is so hoy I'm distracted from the lingüística!

Dedicating this to my nephew in Perth, Oz who is 35 today, happy birthday Darren & a reminder, if I may on behalf of your dear mum back home, listen! Also like to dedicate this to the good people of England who took Val Doonican to heart and held one of us Irish in some esteem, though others sadly let us down, a big thank you! Though of an older generation I always loved Val's rendition of this song, enjoy! Air dheis Dé go raibh a anam dÍlis!

I couldn't let the day pass without jamming this to mark the entry of Bros in Arms into the U.S. Album charts at No 1 spot which it held for all of 9 weeks in 1985! All of 30 years ago and it has stood the test of time, don't you think? Enjoy this version with MK accompanied with a nice string ansamble.

It was the long hot summer of 1976, I was 15 years young, wearing flair trousers and wild long hair, marooned on Cape Clear Island in hip West Cork with a bunch of other kids packed off on a summer course to learn the Gaelic language. Some older lads from Dublin had the latest 'Horslips' release on cassette tape and I got entangled! #magic http://www.horslips.ie/celtric.html

by the late great Jim McCann
The Irish diaspora will be saddened of news from home on this day of the passing of Jim McCann, one time member of the famed group 'The Dubliners' & an Irish Folk Legend. All our great bards are passing, but there will be one 'hell of a do' in that great Bardic Hall on high to greet Jim with plenty of porter and real 'craic' on Saint Paddys Day!

In a similar vein to my last jam, this song and its theme proves the English, outside of Whitehall have a shared experience with their neighbors in Ireland and we have more in common than some would have us think. Of course Ireland shall only begin to take its rightful place among the nations of the earth when we win the Rugby World Cup & to that end a victory over England in the 6 Nations this weekend will give us that springboard, so come on Ireland!

Here is an appropriate lyrical resolution to live by at the start of the new year from a German band Freiheit which was a hit for them in 1988. For years I had mistaken the song as an ELO track. It gains a good deal of air play at this time of the year, enjoy.
