I guess this is it. I'm in a pub so can't quite remember how it goes but leaving with Roy Montgomery, my favourite purveyor of long-form drone jangle. #themelancholydeathofTIMJ
by Martha and the Muffins
Sticking with Canadian music, here's a nostalgic one from my childhood for the #melancholydeathofTIMJ filmed at the Electric Ballroom in Camden! Albeit when I was three years old.

My next melancholy song which is all about TIMJ going away. I wanted to jam something from The Tragic Treasury but those all seem to be BLOCKED on YT.

by The Iditarod and Sharron Kraus
Now that TIMJ is going, I shall have to jam my favourite melancholy songs, eh? I love Sharron Kraus's voice but her collaboration with The Iditarod is just perfect, a short EP well worth your time.
by Nina Simone
Pretty sure I've jammed this before, but who cares. Nina Simone, legend. I just saw the documentary What Happened, Miss Simone? which is certainly interesting, if fairly unadventurous.
by Amy Winehouse ft Ghostface Killah
Saw the documentary 'Amy' the other night. I was never a huge fan, but it just makes me sad about her all over again.
by Björk
For some reason, this was stuck in my head this morning. That's my reason for posting it.

I'm stealing this from @thesunneversets, as I was listening to the album yesterday (#78) and I still love it.
by Kelly Clarkson
I do love Kelly when she's being shouty and emo, although the sound quality on this video is a bit tinny.

So, new album from this chap, much like his earlier ones. Hadn't really listened to him in years, but it's rather nice if you like that kind of thing.
by Beyoncé
So this popped up on shuffle yesterday when I was walking in the sun, and I still like it. It's been a few years. TWELVE! I checked. Surely despite the passage of time, you still remember it? Actually I probably work with people for whom this is like a song that defines their childhood, eh?
by Leonard Cohen
So close to going to #NYC, just a few days away. Then on to Canada, where this chap is from.

About time I jammed some tMG for my #NYC jams, because I am, after all, going to Queens. That's where we're staying.
by Nina Hagen
This was suggested by Katy for my #NYC jams (only a month to go! exciting! submit any recommendations for places to go, eat, drink). The song is in German though, so good luck with that.
by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Continuing the #NYC jams ahead of my visit next month.

Continuing the #NYC jams ahead of my visit next month. I expect it to look just like this film clip. I recognise this isn't a great presentation of the song (it restarts about three times), but I couldn't find any other videos... Sorry!

I'm going to NYC in April, so I should start jamming NYC-themed songs NOW! Let's start with an obvious one eh.
by Wckr Spgt
DIPLOMATICALLY COOL. I have no reason for sharing this, it just came up in my listening today and has a pleasingly lo-fi aesthetic.
by Bonnie 'Prince' Billy
Saw BPB play live the other night, he finished with a (rocking) version of this. The original is pretty bleak, but this version is rather jolly. I had no idea it had an 'official' video, but it looks like it was filmed in Scotland of all places. (I originally thought it was my hometown Edinburgh from a brief look, but now that I watch it, it's clearly not. I think it might be Glasgow actually.) So tick VG for that.
by Taylor Swift
I met up with some people the other night and we talked in depth about "1989", and basically when the album is good I really like it, and this track, late in the album, is one of my current favourites. I like the atmosphere and the imagery, which bring to my mind some kind of dystopian young-adult novel (albeit one about hiding from papparazzi).
by The Mountain Goats
As we all (should) do,I've been going on a bit of a tMG kick of late. The album this is from is the one I first loved, and this one of its standout tracks. The sound of those opening guitar chords just seemed to lift off the vinyl and pound into my brain. I love the level of utter despair this song seems to conjure. I wish I could feel so strongly but glad too that I don't, at least not often. PS selecting a jam on phone so v difficult to tell if the video link works...
by Lily Allen
I was stuck doing some v boring work recently, and discovered that Lily 's music still cheers me up.

It's my 10 year London-i-versary, and this is the current UK #1 as far as I can tell. Maybe in 10 years it'll sum up all that was good about the 2010s, but I doubt it somehow.
by Professor Green ft Emeli Sandé
Marking my countdown for the 10 years I've lived in London, this was UK #1 on my 8th anniversary in 2011. I'm hearing it for the first time, which shows how much attention I've been paying.

Yes, it's a film trailer, but it's for a great Godard film that I just reviewed over at my film blog. Also it has a strong musical theme.

I've never been obsessed by Bjork but I was recently reminded that this album (Homogenic) is quite good.

So I watched this movie last night and it has that stirring orchestral score thing going on.
