Here are all of Shaka's jams.
by Laurel Aitken and the Cookoomackastick
Known as "the Godfather of Ska," Laurel Aitken was Jamaica's first real recording star. He was a pioneer in many other respects as well: he was one of the first artists ever to release a ska record, the first to work at promoting his music in the U.K., and one of the first to record for the seminal Island label, itself a major force in the international popularity of Jamaican music. allmusic.com/artist/laurel-aitken-mn0000138792/biography #Lastjam for TIMJ. No sadness but rather much joy for the tunes shared and friendships made so today is a party day. I am not the biggest fan of social media but this was different. I gotta thank the staff for the creativity that gave us free reign on our own type of creativity using other artist creations. Talk about a line of sappy #cheese there. I Hope to see everyone at the other sites. I will narrow it down to two sites for myself in due time. Shaka sez JAM ON!!!

Happy #WeirdAssWednesday with this garage rock jam Since THE CASTLE OF FU MANCHU is directed by Jess Franco I would guess that the MS3TK gang would be the spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down THE CASTLE OF FU MANCHU trailer https://youtu.be/hJH0KN_UXd4 Dr Fu Manchu is a fictional character introduced in a series of novels by British author Sax Rohmer during the first half of the 20th century. The character was also featured extensively in cinema, television, radio, comic strips and comic books for over 90 years, and has become an archetype of the evil criminal genius while lending the name to the Fu Manchu moustache. The character of Fu Manchu was a highly pejorative stereotype often associated with the Yellow Peril. There have been many #cheese flicks made about this character. He was in an early black and white BATMAN serial that I watched recently on TCM, or a stereotype based on the character. I enjoyed his part more than 'the batman'

The song peaked at number one for six weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in the spring of 1969. The single topped the American pop charts and was eventually certified platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA. Instrumental backing was provided by session musicians known as the Wrecking Crew. One Meatball – Song from 1940’s released as a “soundie” This “soundie” from the 1940’s features a poor old fellow who can only afford one meatball. Doesn’t it at least come with a little sauce!? Soundies were an early version of the music video: three-minute musical films, produced in New York, Chicago, and Hollywood between 1940 and 1946, often including short dance sequences. (The completed Soundies were generally released within a few months of their filming; the last group was released in March, 1947.) The films were displayed on the Panoram, a coin-operated film jukebox or machine music, in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, factory lounges, and amusement centers. Several production companies filmed the Soundies shorts: James Roosevelt’s Globe Productions (1940-41), Cinemasters (1940-41), Minoco Productions (1941-43), RCM Productions (1941-46), LOL Productions (1943), Glamourettes (1943), Filmcraft Productions (1943-46), and Alexander Productions (1946). ~cont

by The Swirling Eddies
All day and evening will be one of the favorite TIMJ hashtags #ThirstyThurday https://youtu.be/yBF_mqvJD8g This comedy song with an underlying serious side was written by The Swirling Eddies frontman Terry Taylor, who used the pseudonym Camarillo Eddy on the album. Taylor tells us that he does write some comedy songs that are just silly fun, but others, like this one, have a message beneath the surface. In this song, the redneck churchgoer behaves like a true Christian only in the presence of the pastor, which is an extreme example of how many Christians can lapse in their actions. Says Taylor: "there are songs like 'Hide the Beer, the Pastor's Here' which are funny on the surface - it doesn't matter if you're a Christian or not, it's funny to you. People identify with that idea: the pastor's showing up, we need to get rid of our booze and whatever else. But there's a very serious theological side to that song.

#SundaySoother with #cheese for dessert The Dells were originally the El Rays - they changed their name in 1953. The song was inspired by a party some female friends threw for them. The 1956 version hit #4 on the R&B charts (Vee Jay Records), sold over a million copies, and became a romantic standard. This was re-recorded in 1969 as "Oh What a Night" with a radically different arrangement and tempo. Released on the Cadet label, the remake scored a #10 position as it also sold over a million copies. --thanks songfacts THE FIVE HEARTBEATS is a flick I haven't seen yet that is loosely based on The Dells trailer https://youtu.be/IKhZXOU5SCg review http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-five-heartbeats-1991

Later in life it would be one of the songs i would sing to my kids as infants so it has a special place in my heart. The album is definitely a #SundaySoother for the most part. One exception "Go Down Gamblin'" I was considering as my #lastjam...this is the first version of "God Bless the Child" I Had heard and probably the reason I would end up loving Billie Holliday so much after high school. "And When I Die" is damn near an anthem for me 1. You've Made Me So Very Happy 2. I Can't Quit Her 3. Go Down Gamblin' 4. Hi-De-Ho (That Old Sweet Roll) 5. Sometimes in Winter 6. And When I Die 7. Conny Plank overheard the band at the beginning these sessions and offered to produce this record for them. Plank was best known for producing Krautrock and experimental rock artists such as Neu!, Can, Guru Guru and Kraftwerk, and his influence can be heard on this final product. With Lonesome Crow, we were just a young band trying to find our way, trying to shape an artistic style to find the Scorpions DNA. There was a ballad with “In Search of the Peace of Mind”, and a psychedelic rocker with the title track, “I’m Goin' Mad”, [which] was a great rocker with Michael Schenker playing great solos. We were just a young band with talented guys, with no idea on where to go from here. For the subsequent album, Fly to the Rainbow, we brought in Uli Roth, who had a Hendrix influence, and Rudolf and I became a songwriter team. When Matthias Jabs joined the band, we found our style, fast riffs but great melodies, along with the power ballads. —Klaus Meine

Dead Man is the story of a young man's journey, both physically and spiritually, into very unfamiliar terrain. William Blake travels to the extreme western frontiers of America sometime in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Lost and badly wounded, he encounters a very odd, outcast Native American, named "Nobody," who believes Blake is actually the dead English poet of the same name. The story, with Nobody's help, leads William Blake through situations that are in turn comical and violent. Contrary to his nature, circumstances transform Blake into a hunted outlaw, a killer, and a man whose physical existence is slowly slipping away. Thrown into a world that is cruel and chaotic, his eyes are opened to the fragility that defines the realm of the living. It is as though he passes through the surface of a mirror, and emerges into a previously-unknown world that exists on the other side. all info is from the youtube uploader track listing in the TIMJ comments and a note or few from me

More #cheese along with another fine tune from Megan Lynch (@spidra) with her intro first Introduced in "In Caliente" (1935), a Busby Berkeley musical filmed on location in Tijuana, this song has so long been performed in jazzy versions that people forget its original Latin flavor. It was used in the background for the most part although Bugs sings it in "The Windblown Hare" (1949). lyrics Words - Mort Dixon; Music - Allie Wrubel credits from Songs The Brothers Warner Taught Me, released 29 September 2009 Vocals - Megan Lynch; Rhythm & lead guitar, fiddle - Tony Marcus; Accordion - Robert Armstrong; Upright bass - Brandon Essex; Engineered & Mixed by Mike DaSilva IN CALIENTE trailer http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/104244/In-Caliente-Original-Trailer-.html I couldn't find a full stream of "The Windblown Hare" so here is and interview with 'the man with 1000 voices' mel blanc on letterman https://youtu.be/iHYEt4zptRg

Bette Davis and Bugs Bunny #cheese in the same post thanks tp Megan Lynch aka @spidra This song comes from the 1942 film "Now, Voyager". It was used as background music with the memorable exception of "Hare Ribbin'" (1944) which has Bugs in drag as a mermaid singing "It Can't Be Wrong" while the orchestra simultaneously plays "A-Hunting We Will Go". It is one of the most brilliant of the many brilliant arrangements and orchestrations Carl Stalling did for Warner Bros. cartoons. lyrics Words - Kim Gannon; Music - Max Steiner credits from Songs The Brothers Warner Taught Me, released 29 September 2009 Vocals - Megan Lynch; Rhythm guitar - Tony Marcus; Saw - Robert Armstrong; Engineered & Mixed by Mike DaSilva NOW VOYAGER trailer https://youtu.be/f9jjojoPkl4 And heeere's BUGS! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x20z3u2_ep-34-hare-ribbin_shortfilms

Intro is by Megan Lynch (@spidra) If there's one song I associate with Bugs Bunny, this is it. Whether he was a castaway or invading Elmer's dream (in "The Big Snooze" ) or merely killing time, he sang this song. lyrics Composers: Leon René, Emerson Scott, Otis René credits from Songs The Brothers Warner Taught Me, released 29 September 2009 Vocals - Megan Lynch; Rhythm guitar - Tony Marcus; National steel guitar - Robert Armstrong; Ukulele - Steven Strauss; Engineered & Mixed - Mike DaSilva tags feeds WB #toon #cheese time http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x23xhid_bugs-bunny-the-big-snooze_shortfilms As Bugs is pleading with Elmer not to quit, he turns to the audience and comments, "'Bette Davis' is gonna hate me for this." Davis, at the time, was going through a well-publicized legal battle with Warner Bros. trying to get out of her contract. bugs evolution http://www.toonzone.net/shows/images/cartoon-network/bugsbunny-evolution.gif

Saturday morning #toon time with a bonus #cheese clip with Cab Calloway and Al Jolson...The jam once again is from Megan Lynch (@spidra) and this is her intro from her bandcamp site...Only thing from myself are the video links Sometimes known as "I Love to Singa", this tune made a big impression on me (and others, apparently) in the Tex Avery-directed Merrie Melodie "I Love to Singa" (1936). It was written for use in the film "The Singing Kid" (1936), in which it is sung by Al Jolson and Cab Calloway. In the cartoon, it is sung by Owl Jolson, a one-off character who has enjoyed newfound popularity in recent years. The lyrics make reference to Major Bowes who hosted one of the many radio talent shows that were popular in the '30s. Another track from our TIMJ friend Megan Lynch a.k.a. @spidra with her intro followed by some #toons with #cheese Paging @21schizoid "It's Magic" has been used as mood music in some Pepe Le Pew cartoons but was sung most memorably by Bugs in "Transylvania 6-5000"(1963). It was written for "Romance on the High Seas" (1948) and nominated for an Oscar for Original Song. Another fine track from the Meagan Lynch (@spidra) cd along with the toons she references in her liner notes When most people want to invoke the can-can, they use . In order to plug a Warners song, though, "The Latin Quarter" is used in Warner Bros. cartoons. It's often used just as a tune but Daffy actually sings some of the lyrics as he performs a can-can in "Daffy Duck Hunt". (1949). David Gerstein reminded me that the song also appears in "Daffy's Southern Exposure" (1942). The original episode of SQUIDBILLIES here is titled This Show Is Called Squidbillies (2005) for something a bit different for @WeirdAssWednesday One of the creators is Matt Mairellaro that wrote the ending tune...It's my best guess that he is doing the background music here...I have spent hours trying to confirm that because I don't like putting out faulty info which I probably do anyway...Ater finally seeing this episode a few years back it helped all of the previous episodes full of randomness fall into place for me...Matt Mairellaro also does some guitar work in which I am rewatching now and did a lot for AQUA TEAM HUNGER FORCE...12 oz. Mouse is a show that makes far less sense than many others on that block of #cheese toons than others...That's saying a lot Back to tunes tomorrow JAM ON Jammers!!!

The only tension in this #SundaySoother #cheese is some comic tension the tango scene is great! https://youtu.be/beAO7zrZL3A trailer https://youtu.be/CPkQ2OQAJSU trivia Monroe required 47 takes to get "It's me, Sugar" correct, instead saying either "Sugar, it's me" or "It's Sugar, me". After take 30, director Wilder had the line written on a blackboard. Another scene required Monroe to rummage through some drawers and say "Where's the bourbon?" After 40 takes of Monroe saying "Where's the whiskey?", `Where's the bottle", or "Where's the bonbon?", Wilder pasted the correct line in one of the drawers. After Monroe became confused about which drawer contained the line, Wilder had it pasted in every drawer. 59 takes were required for this scene.

Happy #WeirdAssWednesday with this tune...this wiggy performance is a different one than they rocked in the #cheese THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT...i shared info on this flick quire some time ago with a different tune I think so I will just share the trailer then on to some tune factoids, mostly wiki The writing of the song is credited to Gene Vincent and his manager, Bill "Sheriff Tex" Davis. Evidently the song originated in 1955, when Vincent was recuperating from a motorcycle accident at the US Navy hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. There, he met Donald Graves, who supposedly wrote the words to the song while Vincent wrote the tune. (Cf. "Money Honey" by the Drifters, 1953). The song came to the attention of Davis, who allegedly bought out Graves' rights to the song for some $50 and had himself credited as the lyric writer. Davis claimed that he wrote the song with Gene Vincent after listening to the song "Don't Bring Lulu".
