The Number One Song In Heaven

The Number One Song In Heaven

by Sparks feat. Giorgio Moroder

So here it is my #FinalJam It was a light bulb moment in the end. Going out to all the Jammers for your brilliant own No1 Song in the #TIMJ Heaven. It had to be a neck hair tune, this is also a song that as a kid tuned me into the power of song. As Uncle Frank said #MusicIsTheBest #KeepJammin #FinalJamParty

'Cross The Green Mountain

'Cross The Green Mountain

by Bob Dylan

#TIMJ #FinalJam No 900. I've jammed this before and I've said this before. For me one of the greatest songs ever written. Whilst specific and researched in its theme, its poetic range is timeless and placeless. It strikes me that it covers finality and passing. Heroic endeavour and commitment. Much like This Is My Jam, a land of the free. #BobJam ...and I'm probably lying about it being my final jam.

Mississippi

Mississippi

by Bob Dylan

Two jams away from 900 and nearing the end of times for TIMJ, it has to be Bobcat to the end. A later period tune and an absolutely lyrically perfect piece of work. Bob gave this tune away when he wrote it as he didn't know how to play it, he then made at least four versions, one of which he dropped on Love & Theft. #BobJam

Mallet Guitars Three - Fourth Movement

Mallet Guitars Three - Fourth Movement

by Ex Easter Island Head

I went to see this group of three musicians on Saturday night. The venue was a small independent gallery space in Nottingham. They are based in Liverpool and as far as I know have made four albums of music. They played a single piece of music called '22 Strings' for 45 minutes. They used three main guitars (very few effects), one bass and a small drum kit. They play the guitars with drum mallets and sticks, using a third bridge / metal rod to tune the guitars on the neck, beating on the guitar body or strings. Its hugely skilled and rehearsed and completely unlike anything I've watched before. Follow the track link to their Bandcamp page. Fascinating euphoria and highly recommended.

#HeadJam No8. Naked was a pretty great album, not Fear or Remain but an admirable way to go out. The production is top dollar and the whole things sounds wonderful. Love for Sale

Love for Sale

by Talking Heads

And so into #HeadJam No7. True Stories was more about the filmic experience than the songs but it did have some catchy tunes. It nearly past me by at the time except for Wild, Wild Life. Listening to it recently though its a good album, very much from the the same Americana place as Little Creatures but with a smattering of the earlier post-punk in the rhythm section. Tune in tomorrow for the farewell party.

And She Was

And She Was

by Talking Heads

#HeadJam No6 This was quite a change in direction and whilst the earlier albums to my mind have stayed fresh and vital, Little Creatures seems more of its time. It got massive airplay and the videos (this one being one of a few jammable versions) had the same awe-inspiring reception that Peter Gabriel's Big Time & Sledgehammer pieces. Overall a happy album, full of love & babies. Its Americana, Countryfried swampy and less worldly. Still better than the majority.

Burning Down The House

Burning Down The House

by Talking Heads

#HeadJam No5. The song from 'Speaking In Tongues' the version from whats often cited as the greatest live concert video. This pretty much made the the band global. Whilst Eno wasn't on the record it continued on the world beat/dance sound with a lot of additional players. Lighter in overall tone than the previous two albums but still worlds apart from anything else at the time.

Once In A Lifetime

Once In A Lifetime

by Talking Heads

#HeadJam No4 and the majestic last in the Eno affiliated trilogy Remain In Light. Undoubtably the album of theirs I've played the most and I did seriously consider going off piste with a song other than this one. The Great Curve a full on contender and the beautiful Listening Wind being major players. But this was groundbreaking and sent the band stratospheric. And the video!! Just peak creativity. Pretty much the only album you could hear in every studio of Winchester School of Art for a year or so.

#HeadJam No3 and nominally my favourite album and by the narrowest margin my favourite song from it.
