Here are all of ak78's jams.
by PJ Harvey
the refrain particularily kills me softly. um and pro'bly it's a bit appropriate, given the circumstances.. well - although i wasn't that active on thisismyjam, especially lately, i was sorry to learn that it is being archived - but things should be moving on - so let's be positive... it was fun to share my jams and learn all sorts of things and new songs through the jams of others.. you. cheers people... http://www.last.fm/user/morninghalo

by Kim Carnes
this has it all, rocksy full band, cigarette smoke where it hits the eye, a little bit of sax just where it's supposed to be, and raspy kim carnes vocals, and, last and first, to sum it all up, mysterious aching love in the eye lyrics that can be interpreted in many ways (one size fits all) - oh, i don't mind at all....

by Sad Cafe
always loved those sweet Steely Dan'ish songs, the more romantic the better - and Sad Cafe are superb in that particular style .. that much for the heartbrokenness, if there is such a thing, but if there is then maybe it's mostly self pity

by Underworld
i kind of dabb... entered the world of underworld quite recently, my personal fav always being "M.E." from that 1993 classic album Dub..something :P this one track is fervently terrific too, though... ecstatically danceable, ingenious, and going towards that apex, when you say, to hell with everything, this is IT... with the paddy synths quite early in the mix ...
by Billie Ray Martin
Billie Ray Martin posted a video of this, a classic from the sweet era, and someone mentioned this mix - and it's really good ...
by Faithless
if it must be it... a song which i'd rather associate with other pictures and words - i always kind of looked sidewise at the way Rollo// no, ugh, it's Maxi Jazz - rapping and delivering, and how the lyrics go - like, i am wise, and i am rough, and i have seen a lot... i mean, taking a long way home doesn't always lead to to knowing a lot - or, rather - it's not for everyone. sometimes i took a long way home because i wanted to postpone coming home - to postpone coming to terms with myself and realizing how to solve my problems.. well.. but anyway... "taking a long way home" is a phrase that reminds of many different important things to different people... I actually like the album version a lot, but couldn't quickly find it online.

"... Hungry for what we have tasted The years that we wasted The moons that we cried ..." they had this hit in their first album, that "Lady in the lake", which I heard played by a DJ here in athens and was quite captivated. now I came across this album, and it... although being more laid back etc.. left me quite pleased and longing, as to the simple, gentle darkness, and the personality revealed in the songs... <3
by Black Strobe
even though the album as a whole was kind of a disappointment for me - I expected something more electro in style - ok, since it's 7-8 years old, I have no excuse - doing dark blues and mixing it with electro elements is an interesting thing, I know...

by Última Dança
I discovered this by chance, listening to "In A Silent Place" by Sol Invictus on youtube, an old favourite (no apparent relation...) - got captured by the sweet melancholy present here.. it is obvious that Brasil, being such a huge country, has its own blend of music scenes and many interesting bands and it's a pity we from outside know so little about them - ok, after all we sometimes barely know what's going on in our heads.. so, anyway, it's a great sweet piece of music - my warm thanks to the band ...

by London After Midnight
one of the pieces one discovers in the most unsuspected places :P (geia sou re Nikola) it's always a guilty pleasure to listen to those catchy romantic refrains - a supposedly counter-culture movement like gothic music (okay, not THAT counter-culture) blending with notions of love and sacrifice that have been readily exploited by other, more consumer-ready, music genres (file-under ελαφρολαϊκά)

by Christian Death
today seems like a fine day for discovering and rediscovering the magnificence of Christian Death... Rozz Williams & Gitane Demone ... it's a shame they had all this split between Rozz & Valor and court cases and what not. well, anyway, I don't know the pecularities, I guess things just happened that way... RIP Rozz Williams, who had birthday a week ago.

by Happy Rhodes
total <3 happy rhodes is recommended everywhere to Kate Bush fans, - it's incredible how one's music may be influenced by the other one's music - but not in the copying sense - but as a nourishment when one's music was a child.. Happy Rhodes had her first albums when KB was still active in the 80's... and she continued to make very sensitive, personal and musically very adventurous compositions, if not as grand and glittering as Kate's... My own Kate's last favourite album was '89's Sensual World, but Happy Rhodes did stuff in the 90's and 00's that are still very very worthwile, IMHO... most of her albums are out of print and are hard to find, but all is streamable here http://rhodesongs.com/music/rearmament/index.html, and there is downloadable material here http://wretchawry.com/happy/samples/

greek eclectic dark folk/wave band (don't know quite how to characterize this - and I dislike the term neo-folk) now renamed to :Skull & Dawn:, having shifted to a bit more vigorous style, a blend of a kind of dark country/americana/something ... the orchestration here reminds me of the likes of Beirut, and the atmosphere is simply awesome, dark poetic and/or hopeless ...

by Mirwais
somehow this fits into the current moods. mirwais starting with new wave in the 80's "taxi girl", continuing with slick pop like this, collaborating with madonna and doing other interesting stuff with YAS.. mirwais' "production" - one of my recent one pound second-hand acquisitions - i think he sampled serge gainsbourg / melody nelson there too (an infamy!)

I heard that from the magnificent "For Your Ears Only" 80's compilation of Third Mind Records' artists. And was instantly hit. Great gentle way to mix a prominent synth sequenced track with the usual rock orchestration.. 'ave a ood ay ye all.

i wish we were allied by something more than damned countries. it seems the notion of countries only alienates, along with other stuff - we are alienated more and more beyond visible end. and there is always someone who takes advantage of it, and laughs to our face.

mostly because I went to their live - it was kind of sweet and dreamy - the whole atmosphere of their songs - they way they play them, in combination with video projections - is much more effective than plain listening to their studio stuff..

although the lyrics baffle me a bit, i sense that they carry a deep meaning - well, and then there's this gentle polite clean melancholy of the performance itself

since something is happening and i'm not let to post Camper Van Beethoven's "One Of These Days", i'll go with this one :P it's the first chance i have to actually listen to Pretty Things, i know i'm long overdue.. well, and I remembered that 90's club hit by ATC, called "all around the world (la la la la)" :))
by Alan Rankine
my heart and soul ease and lower an inch, ooze with almost palpable aural pleasure under the influence of the beginning... and the rest of this song.. notwithstanding the apparent mild morbidity of the lyrics

a song from 1989, soft rocky and dark - reminds me of the good sides of the likes of The Police - a collaboration between musicians from well known greek bands Spyridoula and Panx Romana (i hear...) - is laconically and meaningfully titled on the lines of "What in the world will happen to me on this night?".. that kind of speaks for many people who do stuff, i.e. go out at night, craving subconsciously for something special to happen ... maybe.

it is certainly of a certain kind - i don't know if it's formulaic, but it's very well crafted haunting melancholic gentle electro pop, somewhat close to its darker hues like what they tried to dub as witchhouse in US, at least as far as imagery and lyrical themes go... i have quite lost touch with this genre but the whole bunch of pieces ACH have on their soundcloud is top notch and made me rrrremember [meanwhile: the sound of lightning, screeches in the background etc.]
