Here are all of apoplexiac's jams.

Ani-Kuni

Ani-Kuni

by Madeleine Chartrand

I have been mentally steeling myself for this, a final jam, all week. By chance or circumstance, this website has come to mean a lot to me in the last few years. Selecting a weekly Jam became a matter of refocus, to take stock of what I was listening to and what I was loving, and to introduce me to something new when my inspiration was low. Such a wonderfully basic and creative enterprise should not have succumbed to the banality of internet censorship and petty squabbles of ownership and availability. Good music is good music, and this was the best instance of communal sharing I've known. Choosing one last Jam was difficult, but this won out. It won by not being my favourite song of all time, but by the first and best amazing example of this website's powers. It was just another wet, damp winter night, years ago, and I was scrolling through the Jams of my followers, and this came on, Madeleine Chartrand's ANI-KUNI, a song I'd obviously never heard before, and...

When You Smile

When You Smile

by The Flaming Lips

Joy Unfolds

Joy Unfolds

by Heliotropes

This is a great song, but a truly fearsome song for that final minute. When Jessica roars/wails/screams, I can't stop my hairs going on end. I use this as one of my running 'power songs' when I need that burst to push past the pain and go faster and further.

Mannequin

Mannequin

by Wire

A stormer from one of the most important albums of all time. The basic principle was that when an idea or a song became boring or ceased to be new or outlived itself, it ended. Some songs on the record barely live past thirty seconds (and they're still as good as anything else you'll hear). Others developed into two or three minute classics. Mannequin is a quick, catchy, honest, and abrasive assault on all those blank, vapid bastards out there.

Dock It #8

Dock It #8

by The King Khan & BBQ Show

It's been a long time since someone made me feel so excited by old fashioned garage rock and roll. One minute King Khan are out-Ramones-ing the Ramones, the next they're thrashing out 60s throwbacks, then it's back to Stooges tribute sounds, then it's soulful 50s crooners. It is so diverse, so punchy, so sweet and aggressive, so authentic. And this song just blows my fucking socks off.

Lucky's Tune

Lucky's Tune

by Reid Paley

This is the lead track from a compilation I stole from my father about a decade ago called Bailing the Jack: Birth of the Nu-Blues. It's a seriously good mix. Dirty ballsy Americana blues mixed with shades of punk, soul, electronica, rockabilly, RnB, folk, and some classics thrown in, too. There's more than a few unearthed gems to be found.

Feedbacker (Part III)

It's a terrifyingly noisy album that swings between dissonance one second and classic heavy Boris rock the next. Pt. Three of the Feedbacker record is a good example of loud, accessible Boris; equal parts foot stomping beat, thick riff, and Sonic skronk.

stay with me

Guys? Gals? Please -- PLEASE -- just let me wax lyrical about this band. I swear I won't take too long! Tuques (however the fuck you say that, eh) are simply the best shoegaze/dream pop thing I've heard in a long, LONG time. They recently released an EP called Slushpuppies and it has six of the finest, loudest, sweetest, dreamy, fuzzy songs I've heard in an age. Choosing a jam was easy this week. They Have a bandcamp page where you can download the EP for however much you like -- be it nothing, something, or everything. This is a band I need more from. Enjoy.
