Reading Tracey Thorn's memoir now, I suddenly remembered this song, which I hadn't heard since 1987 or so. Sounds as great as I remembered, which is no small feat for a lot of stuff I liked in 1987.

Heard this in Dunkin' Donuts this morning. First thought: "Damn, this should've been on the playlist for Chrissy's memorial event". Second thought (which is triggered literally every time I hear this song): "Damn, this song is amazing and perfect and I love it unequivocally. Why have I never owned a copy? Let's fix that. Okay. Largest iced coffee you got, black, please." Seriously, though, it seems like a little masterpiece, sonically and lyrically. So much pathos. Feeble threats. Different perspectives. I think that if I'd heard this song this morning for the first time (and not the ten thousandth), I'd have been floored.

Was just listening to this album and trying to think of other examples of 80s pop/rock with with (what I consider) timeless (or at least not-too-time stamped) production. This album, Ocean Rain, Thomas Dolby's cover of "I Scare Myself", most of Two Wheels Good, Rattlesnakes. What else? Also, lookee who's playing drums in this performance. I remember where I was when I learned of his death.

"Don't create. Don't rebel." This has been my earworm for weeks, but do you see me complaining? Nope. I love this record so much. I love that it starts out with a sour post-punk hook that would've been a highlight on an early Fall record, and then they throw that out to go into another fantastic, Kinks-like hook, only to throw that one out too, so they can go into a third, insane pure Slits hook. Everybody's performance is just perfect.

Heard this over a PA system on Saturday night. From my favoritest Faust record.

Mickey Walker just song-bombed me with this, which is quite alright because it is one of my all-time favorite jams. The hilariously awkward arrangement and production match the lyrics perfectly, and every single line of the lyrics is funny and quotable without being jokey.
