This Will Be Our Year

This Will Be Our Year

by The Zombies

Sorry I was inactive the last couple months, I guess now's as good a time as ever to come back and do one last jam. I know I've jammed this once before, but it's just been on my mind when thinking about what to end things off with, I guess just because it's a bit more about new beginnings rather than endings. In that spirit I went ahead and created accounts on a couple of other sites, just to see where things go. I really enjoyed this site and it's community over the last year or so, and I hope to see some of what made this site special carry over to other places. I haven't jammed anything there yet, but for now I'll leave some links here if anyone is interested and I'll let The Zombies play us out here. http://www.letsloop.com/blynch5194 http://www.godsjukebox.com/selections/username/blynch5194 http://www.nusiki.com/#/users/19851

Vega-Tables

Vega-Tables

by The Beach Boys

I just listened to the 2011 release of The Smile Sessions for the first time in a while, and it still is as amazing as the first time I heard it. This song still stands out to me too, just as a fun happy break in what otherwise is a cold and distant sounding album, generally speaking. I do really like that sound on the rest of the tracks, they're all very beautiful, but it is nice to have just a fun song too.

The Air That I Breathe

The Air That I Breathe

by The Hollies

It may be a bit cheesy or overdramatic, but I really like this song, particularly the verses when the strings come in on top of that great chord progression (the same used in Creep I'm pretty sure). I kinda wish the chorus carried the momentum a little more coming out of the verse, but I do like it still.

The Seeker

The Seeker

by The Who

I'm not sure Pete Townshend is very fond of this one, but I personally really like it a lot, probably because it's the first song by The Who that I ever knew. I'm sure I had heard other songs by them on the radio or some other random place before, but if so I never paid much attention to them. Having this on Guitar Hero III though, and also Won't Get Fooled Again on Rock Band a little later, is what really started my interest in The Who and rock in general.

Immigrant Song [Live]

Immigrant Song [Live]

by Led Zeppelin

It's time for my final jam for my Led Zeppelin month already, that really flew by, and I can't think of a better way to end it though than with this video. It's a great song made even better by Led Zeppelin's energetic performance, I really wish I could've been in the audience for this one.

Since I've Been Loving You [Live]

Since I've Been Loving You [Live]

by Led Zeppelin

Here's a really great video of an awesome Zeppelin song. Jimmy Page really shows his brilliance as a guitarist right from the start, and Robert Plant really brings out the dramatic side of the song, both with his vocal performance and stage presence.

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

Bron-Y-Aur Stomp

by Led Zeppelin

With all the Led Zeppelin I've been listening to lately I think I'm going to take up @allymac @HappyZebra and @guitarman on their suggestions and have April be a Led Zeppelin month. I'm going to continue on then with Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, probably my second favorite Led Zeppelin song just after Going to California. It has that same folksy/country feel I love from them, but it also has a great upbeat feel. Plus it has John Bonham playing spoons which I just really love for some reason

Friends

Friends

by Led Zeppelin

Right after jamming Led Zeppelin last week, I found out that they finally put all their music up online to stream. As soon as I saw that I downloaded pretty much their whole catalog and spent the last week listening to tons of Led Zeppelin songs I'd never heard before, including this one. So now I really just feel the need to jam them again this week.

Hey Hey What Can I Do

Hey Hey What Can I Do

by Led Zeppelin

Literally just stumbled across this one, I had heard it on the radio and knew it was Led Zeppelin but I never really knew it aside from that, with how hard they make it to find Led Zeppelin online. I'm glad I found it now though because I really like this song, just something with how it all flows really sits well with me.

Meeting Place

Meeting Place

by The Last Shadow Puppets

One of my favorites from Alex Turner, and really one of my favorite songs in general of the last decade or so. I actually first heard this when I came across The Strypes' cover of it, which was one of the first videos they ever posted on Youtube. That version of it is actually what then led me to discover The Last Shadow Puppets, Alex Turner, and the Arctic Monkeys later on. What I really love about this song though, and the whole album in general really, is just how well the orchestra is utilized. It's right up there with Metallica S&M and The Trial by Pink Floyd as one of my favorite uses of orchestra in rock.

I was Born for This

I was Born for This

by Austin Wintory

So I made another account for random songs I wanted to jam if you want to check it out. There won't be any rock on there though so if it's not your thing, fair enough. I just kinda wanted something separate so I could jam those songs while still posting rock on here. This will be the one exception, just to sort of put the word out I guess. Still though, It is a really good song.

Long Gone

Long Gone

by Syd Barrett

The Madcap Laughs was one of my most played albums a few years ago by far, and I'd really like to jam any number of the many great songs on the album. For now I'll stick with Long Time though, it just has that perfect contrast between the soft and bare guitar in the verses and the more driven sound of the organ in the chorus

Love Is A Laserquest (Acoustic)

Love Is A Laserquest (Acoustic)

by Alex Turner

I had this song on my mind over the weekend for Valentine's day, and even though it's a couple days late for that I'm jamming it anyways because I do just really like this song. It's got great lyrics and a bit of an interesting structure in my opinion. Plus, personally I've come to associate this with summer somewhat, and although I'm usually content with whatever the weather is, I am kind of looking forward to it right now

This Will Be Our Year

This Will Be Our Year

by The Zombies

I've been away for a bit, school has really started to kick in, but coming back now I've realized that it's been almost a year since I first started on here, which is pretty cool. This song is semi related to that, but even just in general I really like the lyrics to this song. I had only heard this song for the first time very recently too, through a cover by someone I follow on twitter. I might link to his video in the comments later since I did really like what he had to say about the song too.

Wouldn't It Be Nice

by The Beach Boys

As a whole, Pet Sounds is one of my favorite albums ever, and I can always go back and just listen to it in it's entirety. This song in particular though manages to show both the musical depth throughout that album and just the pure fun that I love about most of The Beach Boys other music at the same time

The Battle of Evermore

The Battle of Evermore

by Led Zeppelin

I was given a record player for christmas, and while I had owned some albums on vinyl before, Led Zeppelin IV is now the first I've gotten for myself now. I love every song on it, including Going to California, which I jammed before, and this one. I really love the dual vocals on Battle of Evermore, with both the back and forths between Robert Plant and Sandy Denny, and the harmonies they sing together. It really makes it stand out among the many great songs Led Zeppelin have made.

Drive My Car/What Your Doing/TheWord

by The Beatles

I've been gone for a bit, but now that I've got my youtube music subscription thing I'm really in the need for some good unique stuff stuff to download, and I know I'll find some on here. This is one of the tracks I've already downloaded, it's probably my favorite track from Love, but really the whole album is amazing. A Nation Once Again

A Nation Once Again

by Mary Barry Freedman

I've been pretty excited about the Scottish vote for independence, I'm not sure why, probably just the potential historical significance of an event like this. However, as an Irish American, I don't really know much Scottish music, let alone any that might be relevant. So while this song might be about Ireland, I felt that at least the tone and message were at least somewhat relevant to the current situation. Whatever comes of the vote tomorrow though, at least they'll have made their decision together, as a nation, and I'm sure they'll be able to make the best of it.

Quadrophenia (Full Album)

Quadrophenia (Full Album)

by The Who

Sorry to post a full album, it wouldn't let me post the individual song I picked. To be fair though, it is a rock opera, so I'm not sure any one song could do justice to the album as a whole. On top of that it's my favorite album, so rather than post an alternate version of one of the tracks I think I'll just post the whole thing and set it as my eternal jam.
