Here are all of ennacooper's jams.
by Sonic Youth
Kind of has to be the greatest hits from here on in, doesn't it? Possibly my favourite Sonic Youth song (or at least definitely in my top five). Feels a bit weird calling them my favourite band now that they don't exist any more; I've previously never had a favourite band that weren't still around, and that jars somehow.

Oh look, it's the original, and better, version of Shine On, back when it was their debut single, rather than the later version from an album. Not that I only just realised that I didn't have this version on my ipod. Oh no.

This, when Gravenhurst played the Dublin Castle for the Fires in Distant Buildings album launch. Nothing short of stunning, yet all my memories of that gig are less about Nick than of the others - Dave towering over his drum kit like some sort of mechanical octopus, each beat punctuated by the strobes, people approaching Huw after the gig "oh my god that was so amazing" and this is the same Huw I used to find asleep on the sofa, his still half-full can of beer about to topple to the floor, when we'd get in from watching bands on nights that Huw couldn't do. There's obviously a lot of Nick in my memories of Gravenhurst, and Assembly Communications, gigs, just not of this one in particular. Because of other factors there was so much emotion caught up with Gravenhurst, both personally and also subsumed from other people around me while Assembly Communications became Gravenhurst. Of everyone I've known in bands, Nick was the person I most expected to make it, but I expected it last longer.

Think this may actually be becoming one of my favourite songs this year, even if I am starting to detect the slightest, tiniest, teeniest hint of Mansun to it; though that could just be down to their haircuts and coats. And if so, it's Mansun if they'd been covered by Wild Nothing, which makes it okay.

by Mirel Wagner
I first discovered Mirel Wagner by accident, so it's probably apt that I only found out that she had a new album when I stumbled across it on the Rough Trade website a few days. The album is as excellent as the her debut and, again, anything I can say about her sounds like every single singer-songwriter cliché, but this is just awesome.

Listening to UltraMantis Black and Mongol Horde hsa sent me back to Sounds Like Violence's first EP (which is actually excellent, even if everything they've done since isn't). YOU GIVE ME HEARTATTACKS

Finally ripped my old Eska (the Scottish(?) mid to late 90s alt.rock band) sevens last night. So so good. This was the b-side to III Spike (or Ill Spike or something involving three characters that could be upper case i or lower case l or Roman numerals), as well as appearing an early Camden Crawl compilation. They got a bit post-rock on the later Case Wrapped Up EP, then a bit post-emo on their only album, but the early singles were the best Eska: two-to-three minute blasts of joyous fuzzed up indie-rock.

Nothing vaguely-original sounding here, but if you've ever wondered what the missing link between Lush's Spooky (from back when they were actual bonafide shoegazers) and Tanya Donnelly-era Throwing Muses sounded like then this is for you. And it's really good. Plus, bonus dancing-like-Mark-Gardener-in-Ride from Jesse Crowe in the video.

by the Fresh and Onlys
I wanted April Fools, the most stand-out of stand-out tracks from the Fresh and Onlys' new album, but it doesn't seem to be available to jam anywhere. This, along with Bells of Paonia, comes a close (joint) second.

Currently my favourite song from the Ought album. Post-punk (where that punk was probably of the DC hardcore variety) Talking Heads covering Q & Not U in the style of some other bands, or something. You've got @MarcEllerby to blame for me stumbling across them.
