"My grand finale, my goodbye..." Very sad to see this site go. Such a great no-nonsense community of pure music appreciation. No adverts, no spam, just plain simple sharing of fantastic music in a beautiful well presented way with great people. Thanks to YouTube's licensing deals with VeVo, as usual I actually had great difficulty finding a copy of this track that would embed due to copyright restrictions, which seems quite fitting considering I think that's one of the main causes for this sites demise. Despite TIMJ making the brilliant effort to archive this site, I wouldn't be surprised if unfortunately my last jam and many others end up getting pulled off the internet anyway :-(. You can catch me on Twitter & LastFM @jpaylor, I don't often post much music on there but I'll start to do so. I might give Let's Loop a try, but I'm not too convinced it'll ever be a worthy replacement. Nonetheless, whatever I end up on, you'll usually find me with the same username. Cya! Jonny

Sun's Coming Down

Sun's Coming Down

by Ought

Great new music video by Ought. Love this band, can't wait to see them live again later this year, they were probably the gig of the year for me last year. I can hear influences of bands like Sonic Youth, The Fall, Talking Heads and maybe slight similarities to some more recent bands like Protomartyr and Viet Cong but I think all this ultimately comes together to form a new distinguishable sound of their own and nobody's producing a sound quite like this in new music at the moment.

UFO

UFO

by Absolutely Free

Absolutely Free were absolutely brilliant when I saw them live supporting Viet Cong last week. I knew nothing about them but was blown away by their performance, which included this track "UFO". They are a Canadian band featuring former members of "DD/MM/YYYY" (who I've not heard of either) and reminded me a little of fellow Canadian experimental/electronic band Suuns. The use of strange old sound clips, the way they slowly layer up the track with fantastic retro analog synth sounds, the way the vocals and guitar melody harmonise, the way the percussion builds up stronger and faster... it all makes for an incredibly powerful and interesting track, especially experienced live. They even combined this with weird video projections covering their faces and the wall behind them. If you get chance to see them, I strongly recommend going, in fact I can't wait for them to tour again.

Fade Away

Fade Away

by Twin Peaks

This track has a very early Buzzcocks vibe to it, which I love. Unfortunately it isn't really typical of their overall sound, but their other music while more laid-back is still very good for different reasons. The band are from Chicago, Illinois and although they formed in 2009 it wasn't until 2013 that they started releasing music and I'd say it was only really last year that they started to gain recognition. Much to my disappointment, apparently they didn't name themselves after David Lynch's TV series, but a restaurant chain of the same name. They're actually currently setting up a UK tour and are looking for small DIY spaces to play at, so if you know a gig promoter check out: https://www.facebook.com/twinpeaksdudes/posts/890538414309939

"I’m sick of all these pissy sellouts, ignoring actuality, that everything that made them great, lost its validity... Who gives a fuck about yesterday’s heroes?". Sleaford Mods are probably the artists the made the most impact last year in my opinion, coming from practically nowhere and exploding onto the live scene playing gigs at just about every city and venue, making headlines with their simple but effective beat and refreshing lyrics telling it exactly as it is, John Cooper Clarke taken to the next level.

Seasons (Waiting On You)

Seasons (Waiting On You)

by Future Islands

When this track was released, I really didn't get it, it annoyed me. There was a lot of talk about this bizarre David Letterman live performance involving odd David Brent style dancing, weird gestures and fist-pumps, karaoke vocals with strange almost-demonic outbursts. Lots of people loved it and I really didn't, it just seemed stupid to me. They announced a tour and instantly started to sell out at venue after venue, I was surprised and confused. As a result of their apparent instant burst to fame however, I was exposed to this track more and more... and it really grew on me. So much so that I can now say it's been a complete turn-around, I now really like it. The best music is difficult to get into at first but with some effort grows on you, this is a good example of that for me.

"Faerground Accidents are a flash of inspiration in a grey music scene. They are the smudged lipstick on the mirror and an androgynous blast of neo glam – a unique band who are like an edgy version of Pulp – with a lipstick wearing, dressed to kill singer. They are trouble in a time when we need trouble – Indie has become boring – too many sensible bands. If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look At Me

If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look At Me

by Morrissey

I've been re-vising Morrissey's excellent discography over the past week or so. This song was one of many which stood out and I've been playing a fair bit on repeat, but there are so many others I could have picked. I have enjoyed so much of his work and continue to do so, he is one of the few artists that I could say I thoroughly like the majority of tracks and the only artist that I can truly say has been able to write so many lyrics that I can really relate to. He's a true star and it'd be such a terrible loss if he doesn't recover from the cancer he recently announced. Either way, he would leave us with such a fantastic legacy of music, most of which will always stay incredibly relevant for many years to come.

It's the 5th track of The Growlers new album "Chinese Fountain" that they're currently touring the UK with. Another amazing band I recently saw live, this was one of my favorite tracks. Starting with air raid siren & morse code guitar effects at the start followed by a fantastic thumping beat (which reminds me a bit of PiL's "Chant"), simple but effective wobble-esque bass, garagey guitar riffs and building up to Jace Lasek's high pitched wailing vocals... this track just gets better as it goes!

Kidult

by His Electro Blue Voice

Psych & post-punk noise from Italy. A very 80s sound with close resemblance to Killing Joke and a touch of Scratch Acid, it's great to hear new bands continuing this sound and making it their own. This track is from their 2013 debut LP "Ruthless Sperm".
